My Steam Library

Yeah yeah, I play primarily MMORPGs, but I dabble in single player games from time to time. My steam library is filled with games I played, haven't played but will, and so forth.  Let's take a quick look at some of the games worth mentioning. Who knows, I may even make some video/guides/walk-through if I'm so inclined!

Dark Souls 2

One word: hardcore. I told myself I wanted a challenging modern game; I got it, alright. Prepare to get your ass kicked over and over again and get used to that "You died" screen. It will haunt you for the rest of your (in game) life. It's a great thing this game has unlimited continues, but it punishes you for dying multiple times. Each death causes your overall heath to diminish until it gets to 50%. (75% with an amulet) You can restore your health using bonfires and if you want to return to 100% health, you need an item that is not unlimited, so you have to use it wisely. When you kill an enemy you gather their soul.(your main currency for items, skill points, gear, etc.) You die, you lose your souls you collected and you have to return to where you died to retrieve them. If you don't gather your souls before you die again, you lose them all! The controls are tight, though the dodge mechanic is a bit tricky. Sometimes you dodge with incredible precision, and other times I miscalculate my dodges and get greeted with a shield to the face. There's even some online features, such as players able to leave clues/messages anywhere in the game world, you can summon others for help, or they can come into your realm as an enemy and attack you. As if the game wasn't hard enough!  I haven't beat it yet and I stopped playing for now; a new version of the game is coming out with many improvements. It sucks that PC users have to purchase it again, but I do want to play a more complete, hopefully tuned up version of Dark Souls 2.

Danmaku Unlimited 2

I picked this game up for around 5 bucks and it was a worthy investment. Even though it's only five levels, the difficulty is what you would expect from a bullet hell shoot-em-up. There are two modes: Classic and Burst. The main difference is that burst gives you an additional power up that may make the game a bit easier as opposed to classic. Of course I play the game in Classic mode because, you know, "Hardcore". You can tell this game was originally made for mobile platforms with the narrow play window, but it doesn't distract from the awesome game play! Controls are nice and precise, graphics are minimal, but vibrant with explosions and the right amount of detail in enemy ships and bullets. And there's lot of them too. Bosses are huge with complex bullet patterns but fun to fight. The soundtrack is really good for a $5 game. It's very energetic and heart pumping; it seems to fit the action on the screen perfectly, especially the final stage. (Veeery difficult!) Its also a great game to play if you don't have a lot of time. Blow up a few ships, down a few a bosses, move on. If you like hard shooters or old school style games with kick ass music, Danmaku Unlimited will satisfy you and your wallet.

Banished

This game is like an RTS, city-builder, and survival game in one. You start off with a some villagers that has been banished for some reason and now they need to build their own civilization in order to survive. Depending on the difficulty you choose at the beginning, you start start off with some exiled citizens, some starter resources and (if you picked an easier difficulty) some starter houses. Weather, sickness, hunger, death (and birth), this game has it all. At first things seem easy enough; gather enough resources like wood and stone to build more houses, shops, different businesses to make your little village thrive. The difficulty picks up once winter hits and more people start showing up. Hopefully you have enough firewood to keep the villagers warm and food to prevent them from starving. Don't forget to stockpile healing herbs for the sick! You can build a market for villagers to buy things, a trading post to allow visitors from other towns to trade items or export products. The graphics are nice and visually appealing. The interface is very intuitive and allows you to move and lock windows in place. Overall the game is fine; I just wish they would've added some objectives or challenges to increase replayabilty. It's still a solid title so check it out!
